Vancouver-born Kevin Dale McKeown has enjoyed a varied career in journalism, media relations and event management, a career launched in 1970 when, at 19, he became the *Georgia Straight's* gay columnist and Canada's first "out" gay journalist. His coverage of the gay community over the past 40+ years has helped to galvanize the rights movement, inspired people to pick up the mantle, and has led to Mr. McKeown being a central figure in the Vancouver community.
For most of the 70s, in the *Straight* and other publications, QQ chronicled the early days of gay Vancouver's political, social and business community, while to many readers his most important contribution was his colourful reporting on the clubs, pubs, tubs and thriving drag scene.
Throughout his career Mr. McKeown has been a stalwart supporter of the community and continues today as a contributing writer to Xtra under the column "Still QQ". He is still much sought after for his skills as a moderator and for his opinions on the continued challenges faced by members of the LGBTQ Community.
